El Arish is a small, tight-knit soldier-settlement town inland from Mission Beach, surrounded by cane country and rainforest hills. Quiet main street, historic pub, and homes on generous rural blocks.

Silkwood is a small farming town on the Bruce Highway north of Mission Beach, best known for its Italian heritage and the annual Feast of the Three Saints. Cane, bananas and cattle define the surrounding country.
