Replacements

Replacing your split system air conditioner

Even with regular cleaning and servicing, every split system eventually reaches the end of its life. Here are the tell-tale signs it's time to stop patching and start fresh.

Not cooling like it used to

Even after a proper clean and service, the unit can't hold temperature or takes forever to cool the room.

Power bills creeping up

Old units run hard and inefficient. A modern high-star split can dramatically cut running costs in FNQ conditions.

Major repair on the cards

Compressor, gas leaks, board failures — in most cases a replacement is smarter money than pouring cash into an ageing unit.

ACcleanQLD's professional split system air conditioning installation service can help you get the job done — properly sized, cleanly installed and backed by your local ARC-licensed team.

Clean · Repair · Replace

Which one does your aircon actually need?

Not every underperforming split system needs replacing. Here's the honest framework we use on every job.

01

Clean

If your unit is under ~7 years old, in good nick and just running dirty, a full hydro-clean usually gets it back to factory performance.

Book a clean

02

Repair

Small faults — a stuck fan, blocked drain, dying capacitor — are worth repairing when the rest of the unit is sound.

03

Replace

Older units, repeated faults, or repair quotes creeping past a third of a new install — that's when replacement pays for itself in comfort and power bills.

FAQs

Aircon installation — the questions Cassowary Coast homeowners ask us most

Straight answers on pricing, sizing, brands and timing — grounded in what actually works in FNQ humidity and coastal salt air.

How much does split system installation cost in FNQ?
A standard back-to-back install of a new split system on the Cassowary Coast typically costs $850–$1,000 to install, plus the cost of the unit. The final price scales with the kW size of the head, the difficulty of the run, long pipe runs, second-storey work, high walls, tiled roofs, concrete penetrations or electrical upgrades. We give you a fixed, written quote onsite before any work starts — no surprises.
Is a ducted or a split system better for a Mission Beach home?
For most Cassowary Coast homes, one or two well-sized splits in your main living and bedroom areas is cheaper to install, cheaper to run and much easier to service than a ducted system. Ducted makes sense for larger homes where you want whole-home cooling with zoning, but the humidity and salt air up here punish ducted components harder than splits. If you're unsure, we'll walk through both options during your free onsite quote.
Do you charge for a quote?
No. Onsite quotes are free across our whole service area — Mission Beach, Tully, Innisfail, Kurrimine Beach, Cardwell, El Arish and Silkwood. We come out, measure up, talk you through the options and email you a written quote.
How long does a split system installation take?
A straightforward back-to-back single-head install usually takes 3–4 hours from arrival to commissioning. Longer pipe runs, second storeys, awkward outdoor unit locations or electrical work can push it out to most of a day. Multi-head systems are typically a full day. We'll tell you at quote stage exactly how long to expect.
What is a "back-to-back" installation?
Back-to-back means the indoor head and the outdoor condenser sit on opposite sides of the same wall, so the pipework goes straight through with minimal run. It's the cleanest look, the quickest install and the cheapest option — so it's what we quote by default whenever the room layout allows it.
Do I need a separate electrician?
No — licensed electrical work is part of the install. We connect the unit correctly, run any new dedicated circuit needed, and leave everything to Australian standards. Our ARC Licence L194280 covers refrigerant handling, and electrical is handled by our licensed trade partners.
What size air conditioner do I need for my room?
As a rough guide for FNQ conditions (higher than southern-state calculators because of our humidity and heat load):
  • • Bedroom up to 20 m² → 2.5 kW
  • • Medium bedroom / small living 20–35 m² → 3.5 kW
  • • Open-plan living 35–50 m² → 5.0–6.0 kW
  • • Larger open-plan 50–70 m² → 7.0–8.0 kW

Insulation, ceiling height, glazing and orientation all shift the number, so we always confirm sizing onsite — undersizing in the tropics kills both comfort and the unit's lifespan.

Which brand do you recommend for Cassowary Coast humidity and salt air?
Our top pick is Toshiba — the coils and outdoor cabinets handle tropical humidity and coastal salt air well, they're quiet, and the warranty and parts backup in Australia are excellent. That said, we install every major brand (Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Fujitsu, Panasonic and more), so if you have a preference or a specific model in mind we'll happily quote it.
Can I supply my own unit?
Yes, we're happy to install a brand-new unit you've bought yourself, provided it's from a reputable Australian supplier with valid warranty. We do not install second-hand air conditioners under any circumstance — the warranty risk, refrigerant condition and hidden faults simply aren't worth it for you or us.
Can you replace my old unit and re-use the existing pipework?
Sometimes — and we'll be straight with you about when it's fine and when it isn't. If the existing copper is the right diameter for the new unit, is well-insulated, pressure-tests clean and hasn't been sitting open to coastal air, we can re-use it and save you money. If it's old R22-era pipework, undersized, corroded from salt air or has been left uncapped, replacing it is the honest call — using contaminated pipework voids the new unit's warranty and shortens its life.
How soon can you install?
For most standard installs across the Cassowary Coast we can get you booked in the same week, and often the next day if the unit is in stock. Peak wet-season and pre-Christmas periods book out faster, so it's worth getting your quote in early.
Do you remove and dispose of the old unit?
Yes. We recover the refrigerant to regulation (that's what our ARC licence is for), take the old head and condenser away, and dispose of them responsibly. You're not left with the old unit sitting in the yard.
